How do you decide where a support zone starts and ends?

Most of us draw support and resistance as lines, but price rarely respects a single pixel. I am curious how people here define the edges of a zone in practice.

A few prompts to get the discussion going:
1. Do you anchor zones to wicks, candle bodies, or both?
2. Do you scale the zone width using ATR or a fixed pip range?
3. Which timeframe do you draw on, and do you ever shrink the zone on a lower timeframe?
4. How do you decide a zone has failed - a close beyond it, or a retest from the other side?

There is no right answer, and examples are welcome as long as they are clearly labelled as illustrations rather than trade calls. What has worked, and what looked clever but fell apart?
