Yen steady near 157.8 as BOJ decision looms

24hrfx Desk · Oct 30, 2026

The yen was little moved on Friday, 30 October, trading around 157.8 per dollar as markets waited for the Bank of Japan's policy decision. Per Reuters reporting carried by Business Recorder, the yen was down about 0.2% against the dollar over the month.

The BOJ is expected to keep its policy rate at 1.25%. The focus is likely to be on tone: the report says markets are pricing roughly an 80% chance of a hike in December, so any language that firms or softens that expectation could matter for the pair.

The BOJ closes a week of central bank decisions in which the ECB, the US Federal Reserve and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand all left rates unchanged. The Bank of England and Reserve Bank of Australia are next week's focus.

Context for traders: a hold that was fully expected often produces more movement from the press conference than from the headline. Spreads on yen pairs can widen around the announcement, so check your news-event rules and your position size before the release.
