The euro ended the week on a firmer footing. Reuters-based reports on Friday, 30 October, had EUR/USD about 0.15% higher at roughly $1.1197, with another report a little lower near $1.1163 earlier in the session. The pair is headed for a second straight monthly loss in October after touching its lowest since May 2025 earlier in the week.
The dollar index was down about 0.2% on the day, largely a function of the euro and yen gaining; the euro carries by far the biggest weight in the index (see the US Dollar Index explained). The softer dollar came alongside a drop in US Treasury yields to roughly one-month lows, after AI-spending concerns weighed on equities and drew buyers into bonds.
The ECB left rates unchanged on Thursday and indicated that higher bond yields have tightened financial conditions, a message that offered the euro little extra support. The Fed also held earlier in the week.
